Selection Process

Students from any university may apply, but we especially encourage applicants from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and four-year colleges without extensive opportunities for ecological research, especially those institutions in states of the Gulf Coastal Plain (Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, and Georgia). Any major may apply, but we especially encourage biology, geography, geology, or environmental science majors. Students will be selected based on motivational fit, academic capacity, potential impact of the program on career goals, and course preparation using the rubric below:
