Southern Miss Beckman Scholars

Beckman Scholars

Funded by a grant from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, each year the USM Beckman Scholars Program will financially support two exceptional undergraduate students majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Polymer Science and Engineering for two consecutive summers and the intermediate academic year. The two selected Beckman Scholars will benefit from intense faculty mentorship and participation in professional development and networking opportunities. Their sustained research efforts will lead to conference presentations and co-authorship on peer-reviewed publications that will increase their competitiveness for admission to prestigious graduate and/or medical school programs in preparation for successful careers in scientific research and/or medicine.

The two 2025 Beckman Scholars will pursue research full time at Southern Miss during the 2025 and 2026 summer semesters and for 10 hours per week during the 2025/26 academic year. They will receive:

  • $6,800 summer 2025
  • $4,600 academic year 2025/26
  • $6,800 summer 2026
  • $2,800 scientific or travel supplement
