Four University of Southern Mississippi (USM) students in the College of Business and Economic Development (CBED) have advanced to the National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship and Conference (NCSSC) at State Farm Arena (home of the Atlanta Hawks) in Atlanta on Feb. 26-27th.
The four students will be competing in a national sports sales conference against 240 students from 55 schools. NCSSC is hosted by Baylor University's Center for Sports Strategy and Sales (S3) and the Atlanta Hawks and presents opportunities for students to highlight their skills in a competitive sports sales’ environment. Students present a product to the buyer, and recruiters (typically inside sales managers) serve as buyers in a role-play competition.
Students competing include Mikal Bolden (Junior, Sport Management, Meridian, MS), Kovi Howze (Senior, Political Science, Petal, MS), Drazen Moratzka (Graduate Student, Sport Management, Cheyenne, WY), and Madison Moucheron (Junior, Sport Management, Purvis, MS).
In the Ticket Sales Championship, Moucheron and Moratzka will be competing in the national tournament bracket. After the virtual first round in the fall, the team claimed an overall No.15 team ranking which is the highest-ever team national ranking with Moucheron ranked No. 53, and Moratzka ranked No. 89 nationally.
The NCSSC Championship round will include the opportunity to display sports sales skills in a competitive face-to-face format, speed selling competition, quantum quiz, interact with sports business industry professionals in job interviews, networking opportunities, and attend an Atlanta Hawks game versus the Utah Jazz.
“This is an outstanding opportunity for our students to compete in a national sports sales conference,” said Dr. Chris Croft, Assistant Professor of Sport Management. NCSSC is a premier sports ticket sales event with the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena and enables the students to highlight their sports sales talents. The conference allows them to connect with sport industry professionals from professional sport organizations for future job opportunities.”
