The Sport Management graduate sport marketing class at The University of Southern Mississippi partnered with the Biloxi Shuckers organization on a promotional project during the fall 2021 semester. The collaboration enabled students to assist the organization in future sport marketing planning ideas.
Dr. Chris Croft, Assistant Professor of Sport Management, worked with the Biloxi Shuckers’ Hunter Reed, General Manager, and Dustin Fishman, Sales and Marketing Coordinator.
“We focus on incorporating experiential learning opportunities for our students to allow real-world learning opportunities while also contributing to area business organizations. It was an outstanding learning experience for our students to be able to apply sport marketing content from our class, and develop sport marketing ideas for the Shuckers,” said Croft.
Fishman provided an overview of the Shuckers’ background, recent changes in Minor League Baseball (MiLB), and organization needs for future planning for the 2022 season. The students worked in a group project setting to provide proposed promotional ideas for the 2022 season home games.
“The Shuckers organization was thrilled to once again work with Dr. Croft and the Southern Miss Sport Management program. I believe it's a great partnership that's mutually beneficial for both sides as the students get real experience with a professional sports club and we get the benefit of additional marketing assistance during our planning stages,” stated Reed.
