The Master of Science in Sport Management prepares professionals for advanced careers in the expanding sport industry by enhancing their critical thinking skills and exposing them to expert knowledge and research in the field of sport. The curriculum has been designed and developed, enabling students to acquire and demonstrate an impressive set of management skills and an understanding of the sport industry through a combination of required core courses, electives, research, and experiential components.

Study abroad programs led by Southern Miss business faculty include the British Studies Program, Asian Studies, and Italian Studies.

The College of Business and Economic Development is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

What Will I Learn?

This degree program is designed to prepare students for a career in interscholastic or intercollegiate athletic administration and coaching. The academic curriculum also serves students interested in pursuing job opportunities within the sport business industry, including facility/arena management, club management, corporate sport operations, professional team management, and state and national governing agency administration. We also offer a Sport Event Security Management Emphasis.

The practicum gives students the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts taught in the classroom while gaining practical experience with current professionals in the field of Sport Management. While taking the three-hour course, students are required to earn 150 hours of field experience.
