After becoming the first Registered Teacher Apprenticeship program in the state of Mississippi in 2024, USM was awarded an Apprenticeship Building America grant worth $3.8 million from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Employment and Training Administration.
Students enrolled in USM’s elementary education BS for teacher assistants may be eligible for funding and support through the Apprenticeship Building America grant program.
District Benefits
Incentive funding is available to support this "grow your own" effort in teacher workforce
development. Incentive funds can be utilized for:
- Professional development
- Mentor stipends
- Apprentice recruitment, training and on-boarding
Apprentice Benefits
Individuals enrolled in USM's TAP pathway who are employed by our district partners
may be eligible for apprentice benefits such as:
- Online coursework through USM's TAP pathway
- Scholarships of $250 or more per semester (based on financial need)
- Paid Praxis exam fees
- Differentiated student supports
- Focused USM support and professional development
