The University of Southern Mississippi Trent Lott Center compile yearly reports for the Madison County Economic Development Authority and the Madison County Business League & Foundation. These reports provide snapshots of the overall economic health of Madison County in comparison to other Mississippi counties, the state, and where possible, national economic trends. The region of Madison, Hinds and Rankin Counties has the largest labor force in Mississippi. The combined three counties in the Jackson Metropolitan Service Area positions Madison County to be highly competitive in attracting workers into high paying jobs. Manufacturing has a strong presence in Madison County, and ranks third largest county in the state in the number of manufacturing employees. As a single industry, Madison County Retail Trade gross sales was the largest represented industry.
