Success Coaching
Meet one-on-one with a coach who can help you improve your goal setting, time management, study skills, and more. Coaches help their mentees learn how to maximize their academic potential at USM.
Open to all Hattiesburg students pursuing a bachelor’s degree, but priority consideration
is given to first-year, first generation, underrepresented minority, and transfer
students. Application is open at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

Success Experts
Learn new strategies for academic success with an interactive workshop series open to all Southern Miss students on the Hattiesburg campus. Sessions are approximately 45 minutes, and hosted by Center for Student Success staff.
Open to all USM students.
Student Success Navigators
Our Navigators are current USM student leaders who know the demands of college life. These students are trained to assist Southern Miss students with academic skill development. If you are wanting stronger time management skills, study skills, or test preparation skills, be sure to make an appointment and let our Navigators point you toward success.
Open to USM students. Appointments may be scheduled in person or virtually.

Jump Scholars Program
Incoming freshman students can get a JUMP start on their college experience by participating in an intensive three-week success camp experience, taking one academic class and participating in community building programs and academic success workshops.
Open to incoming first-year students. Applications are accepted in early spring.

ACES Living Learning Communities
ACES includes living learning and themed learning communities tailored for incoming first-year students. These communities offer a close-knit peer group within the larger university setting, fostering direct connections with dedicated faculty and staff. The Center for Student Success provides academic support for the community members.
Any incoming first-year student may apply through Housing and Residence Life.
