Kane Palazzo is president of The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Theta Alpha Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. The Gulfport, Miss. native is a junior Hospitality and Tourism Management major. He has served as treasurer for the fraternity and is also a member of Tau Sigma and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Societies. He recently spoke with Southern Miss Now about his work as president of the chapter, his fraternity’s philanthropy and community service, and why a USM student should consider becoming involved in Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University.
*Duties as chapter president: “It’s my job to ensure that every aspect of the chapter aligns with our fraternity's ideals, goals, and values, to make sure every member has a voice in the chapter and that our brotherhood supports every person who joins our fraternity.”
*Pi Kappa Phi Philanthropy and Service: “The chapter's philanthropic organization is The Ability Experience, a Pi Kappa Phi-founded philanthropy that assists people with disabilities across America. Each semester, we have a philanthropic week dedicated to raising money for the Ability Experience by holding events throughout the campus. This year, we were recognized as one of the top chapters for raising money for the Ability Experience.”
*Benefits of Fraternity and Sorority Life at USM: “Joining Greek life at USM is one of the most rewarding experiences at the University. It teaches you to be a part of something bigger than yourself and work towards a greater cause. The networking opportunities as well as life experiences I have had from joining Pi Kappa Phi have been of great benefit to me.”
