The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Gulf Park Food Pantry received more than 600 cans of food from the North Bay Civitan Club during the group’s 15th Annual Gobble Wobble Food Drive and Bridge Run.
“Each year, members select an agency with a food pantry to receive the nonperishables our community donates at the Gobble Wobble,” said Keith Wilson, president of the North Bay Civitan Club of D’Iberville-St. Martin.
He added that college students have food needs that often go unmet, especially during the holidays.
“Inflation has been a problem for consumers shopping to cook during the holidays, so each food item makes a difference to someone,” Wilson said.
Jeff Hinton, associate provost for the Gulf Coast and Lifelong Learning Success, agreed.
“We have members of our university community who occasionally need the food and other items the pantry provides,” he said. “We truly appreciate the North Bay Civitan Club and the community for this donation.”
Gobble Wobble participants donated more than 1,200 items, so two other pantries received nonperishable food to help their patrons.
