Classics to Modern: Three Centuries of Piano Set for USM Gulf Park
Tue, 01/16/2024 - 01:37pm
The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Gulf Park Ambassador Series opens the spring semester series with an on-campus solo piano recital performed by Dr. Ellen Elder, Associate Professor of Piano at USM.
Dr. Elder will present solo piano works spanning three centuries of the piano repertoire in a program entitled, "Classics to Moderns: Three Centuries of the Piano." The recital will be performed on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 12:15 p.m., in the Fleming Education Center (FEC) Auditorium on the USM Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. It is free and open to the public.
The USM Ambassador Series, on-campus, 45-minute recitals are presented at 12:15 p.m. in order to provide the greatest opportunity for students to attend; this time also creates the opportunity for community members and visitors to come during their lunch hour.
The recital will feature movements from the virtuosic Haydn Sonata in E-flat Major, two works by Luigi Zaninelli, USM Emeritus Professor of Composition. The works by Zaninelli are "Homage" (2016) and "Tango della Rosa," (2002) from The Magic Ballroom. The program will conclude with Liszt's glorious Benediction of God in the Solitude.
