Philosophy and Religion Online Forum Schedule set for Fall 2023

A lecture on the controversial subject of AI (artificial intelligence) kicks off The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Humanities’ fall 2023 Philosophy and Religion Forum series, which will be offered online.
Keith Abney, senior lecturer in philosophy at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Tech), will present “AI/Robots and Ethics: Surveying the Risk Environment” Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Abney’s areas of expertise include philosophy of science and religions, applied ethics, and axiology. He teaches courses in critical thinking, philosophy of science, philosophical classics, and ethics.
The remainder of the forum schedule follows:
*Friday, Oct. 6, noon: Dr. Teresa Baron, research fellow at the University of Nottingham, presenting “Genes, Ectogenesis, and the Acquisition of Parental Rights”.
*Friday, Nov. 3, noon: Dr. Jason Ānanda Josephson Storm, professor of religion at Williams College, presenting “Revolutionary Happiness: Redefining Progress in the Human Sciences (please note that advance registration is required for Dr. Storm’s talk).
