Five students at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) have been awarded scholarships by The Hydrographic Society of America's (THSOA) Southeast Chapter Scholarship program for 2023. Only eight scholarships were awarded nationally by the chapter.
USM students receiving the award include, Olaoluwa Oderinde, Adebowale Adedoyin, Musa Animashaun, Peter Komolafe, and Olagoke Daramola.
THSOA’s scholarship program was established to provide financial assistance to students who seek a degree in hydrographic surveying, ocean mapping, geomatics, ocean sciences, geographic information system, ocean engineering, electrical engineering, or other related fields.
“The scholarship program is key for supporting students to progress in their career by accessing more academic-and-professional-related resources, such as training, courses, books, software, etc.,” said Dr. Alberto Neves, Hydrographic Science Program Coordinator at USM.
Scholarship recipients are chosen from a pool of applicants. As part of the process, applicants are required to express their vision about hydrography and their career aspirations in a 750-word essay.
