Planning for the future. The College of Nursing and Health Professions at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is taking proactive steps to assist students as they navigate their academic careers with the inaugural Professional Health Career Panel & Fair on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the R.C. Cook Union Building on the Hattiesburg campus.
The event will include a Professional Program/Admission Panel from Noon until 1 p.m., followed by Health Emphasis Job/Internship/Program Fair from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
Jennifer Wilmoth, Academic Program Manager, School of Health Professions at USM, notes that the event is designed to prepare students who might apply and interview for graduate health-related programs.
“Many students in our undergraduate programs plan on continuing on to a professional program, and we aim to give as much guidance as possible to ensure they are successful in continuing to whichever programs they choose to pursue,” said Wilmoth.
Students who attend will learn how to present themselves as a strong applicant for various health programs such as:
- Dentistry
- Medical School
- Occupational Therapy
- Pharmacy
- Public Health
- Physical Therapy
- Athletic Training
- Physician Assistant
Wilmoth points out that the Panel & Fair would be beneficial to USM faculty as well as students. She stresses that the event’s objectives are two-fold.
“The first goal is to prepare undergraduates for a successful graduate school application process,” she said. “The second is to facilitate undergraduate students networking with potential internship or current employment opportunity sites related to health care. Our hope is that they connect with local health care providers to gain experience and bolster their résumés.
