The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Southern Opera and Musical Theater Company will travel to the Gulf Coast to share Mozart’s comedy, Cosí fan tutte. The free concert will take place Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Fine Arts Building Auditorium on the Harrison County campus.
The humorous production tells the story of two young soldiers who make a bet that their fiancées will remain faithful to them even in the face of temptation. As a result, a manner of hilarious miscommunications, awkward situations, and emotional scenarios ensue. Will the young ladies prove faithful, or will they give in to temptation? Will they turn the tables and play a trick on their men?
“Audiences have come to love this show, making it a classic in the regular productions of many opera companies worldwide,” said Dr. Jonathan Yarrington, a voice professor in the USM School of Music. As director and narrator of the production, Yarrington says, “Beautiful music and voices, along with detailed costumes by Tammy Mansfield make this a beautiful production to see and hear.”
Join us for this special concertized performance, which will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Cosí fan tutte is brought to you by the Ambassador Series, which is a cultural outreach project of the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park campus.
