The Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale will conclude its 2022-23 season with two eclectic performances. The first is a collaborative program with the internationally acclaimed Southern Chorale at 7 p.m. Friday, April 28th, at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis. The Civic Chorale will also perform a solo concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 30th, at Fleming Auditorium on the USM Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. Both are free and open to the public.
The Southern Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Gregory Fuller, Professor and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Southern Mississippi School of Music. In recent years, the ensemble has been selected by blind audition to perform at state, regional, and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) while developing an international reputation for innovative programming and championing new works.
The Gulf Coast Civic Chorale, conducted by Dr. Jonathan Kilgore, comprises singers from several Coast communities. Kilgore spoke of the musicians with admiration when he said, “I am so grateful that they give their time to be a part of this ensemble. No matter the project, they are always up for the challenge.” The Civic Chorale’s diverse season has spanned from traditional pieces to large choral-orchestral works.
The free concerts are presented by the Ambassador Series, a cultural outreach project of the USM Gulf Park campus.
