The University of Southern Mississippi’s (USM) Delta Sigma Pi chapter, Gamma Tau, has captured a prestigious “Provincial - Outstanding Financial Operations for a Collegiate Chapter” award presented by the national office. The USM chapter is one of five to be recognized with Provincial awards.
The Provincial award is presented to a chapter that plans and implements the most comprehensive program of fundraising and financial management.
"I couldn’t be prouder of the Gamma Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. In addition to the engagement challenges due to the COVID pandemic over the last couple of years, the chapter has also faced inherited financial struggles. However, the dedicated leadership team and members persevered to become the active, vital chapter they are today. This award is 100 percent due to their commitment to Delta Sigma Pi and the values of the organization,” said Amy Yeend, Assistant Dean of Professional Development and Career Services, who also serves as the chapter’s advisor.
Winning the award is a testament to the chapter’s overall excellence. To be recognized for an award, the chapter must submit an online application. Each application is first reviewed by a group of fraternity volunteers within each region (groups of 5-to-10 collegiate chapters in a geographic area).
Regional winners are then progressed to a provincial award selection committee. (Provinces include: Northeastern, North Central, Southern, South Central and Western and each province has approximately 40 to 50 chapters). Delta Sigma Pi’s National Scholastic Development and Awards Committee, led by an appointed individual who has shown years of dedicated service to the fraternity, then selects a national winner from the five provincial winners.
Emma Warren, senior finance major and the Vice President of Finance for the USM chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, noted: "It is an honor to receive this award, and I couldn't be prouder of the Gamma Tau chapter. COVID pushed us down, and our fraternity was struggling to retain and engage current brothers. Through the passion and ambition of our exec board, we were able to develop fundraisers and events to help the chapter back on its feet. We have continued to grow in our operations, and I have nothing but hope for the future of Gamma Tau."
