The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Sport Management program recently partnered with Andy Frain Services to allow students to gain real-world experience in sport security at the Ole Miss versus University of Alabama football game in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last month.
The opportunity was afforded to current students by recent USM alumnus Tyler Jacobs (Master’s of Sport Management, 2021) who is currently serving in a National Events Sports position.
“When I was a student in the Sport Management program, I was constantly hearing about alumni giving back and giving current students opportunities to participate and experience different aspects of the industry, and as I graduated, I knew I wanted to be able to offer the same,” said Jacobs. “It was awesome being able to partner with the program and offer current students a quick look into what Andy Frain Services does and the opportunities that it offers. I know it was a great on our end and hopefully it was just as great for the students."
Dr. Brandon Allen, Director of USM’s Sport Management Program, stated that “the faculty are always looking for opportunities that provide our students “real-world” experiences in the sport industry. We are appreciative of Andy Frain Services for providing transportation, training, and the opportunity to work in such an incredible college football environment (over 100,000 fans).
Added Allen: “Sport Management students received specialized training in security checkpoints, bag checks, metal detector screenings, and perimeter control. I am extremely proud of our SM faculty for their willingness to work alongside our students, sacrificing their weekend, for the benefit of our students and our program."
