USM’s Goodwin Appointed Publications Director of American Real Estate Society

The American Real Estate Society (ARES) has appointed Dr. Kimberly Goodwin, Professor of Finance at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), to a five-year term as Director of Publications beginning this year.

ARES, at the forefront of global thought leadership in real estate and the largest association of real estate academics and industry researchers and thought leaders, enters its 37^th year with more than 1,400 faculty, industry and student members.

As Publications Director, Dr. Goodwin will oversee the six scholarly journals published by the American Real Estate Society, including the Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Housing Research, Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, Journal of Real Estate Literature, Journal of Real Estate Practice and Education, and the Journal of Sustainable Real Estate.

“The Director of Publications position plays a key strategic role in real estate research in working with ARES Journal editors, academic, and industry to insure high quality, relevant scholarship,” said David Funk, Executive Director of ARES. Goodwin takes over from Dr. Ken Johnson, professor and associate dean at Florida Atlantic University, who served a five-year term as Publications Director.

“Dr. Goodwin brings a unique blend of publication, research, and technology expertise to the role of Publications Director,” said Johnson, adding “her background and leadership will increase the reach and visibility of the quality research in all ARES publications.”

Goodwin graduated from the University of Alabama with a Ph.D. in finance before accepting a position with USM, where she is currently a Full Professor of Finance, the Director of the School of Finance, and the Parham Bridges Endowed Professor of Real Estate. Dr. Goodwin has received several research awards and published in the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics as well as multiple ARES journals. She currently serves on the editorial team for the Journal of Housing Research.
