Steve Gardner went to work as a staff photographer at the Jackson (Miss.) Daily News after graduating from Southern Miss in 1978. He relocated to Japan in 1980. Mr. Gardner has covered news events worldwide, and his photos have appeared in numerous national magazines including Time and Newsweek. He has published several books, including Rambling Mind: Black and White Images of the Blues in Mississippi. At the time of his induction into the MCJ Hall of Fame in 2007, he was living in Tokyo, where he was a lecturer at Meiji University on Southern blues culture, photography, and conversation. An accomplished blues musician, Mr. Gardner has performed throughout Asia and the United States and has released several CDs.
