Charles Dunagin, a Hattiesburg native, retired as the editor and publisher of the McComb Enterprise Journal in 2000 after working for the newspaper for 37 years. He reported on news events during the civil rights era when the paper won the Sigma Delta Chi National Award for community service for its coverage and editorials. During his time leading the paper, it experienced significant growth, increasing the number of days it was published and launched a website. Mr. Dunagin began his career working for the Jackson State-Times, initially as a reporter and then advanced to city editor. He also worked at the Jacksonville Journal in Florida and The Hattiesburg American where he was assistant executive editor. Mr. Dunagin’s work has earned numerous awards, including the Silver Em Award from the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association at Ole Miss, the Silver Inky award from the MUW and The Student Printz Mississippi Medalist Award from USM. He was a 1999 inductee of the Mississippi Press Association Hall of Fame and a 2007 inductee of the MCJ Hall of Fame.
