The Society for Military History's Annual Meeting
New Orleans, Louisiana March 14-17, 2013
The (Dale) Center for the Study of War & Society at the University of Southern Mississippi is proud to have served as the primary host of the Society for Military History’s annual meeting in March 2013 in New Orleans. The SMH conference is the premier event in the field, gathering the leaders in the study of military history and war and society together to share new research, network, and set the future parameters of this important field of study. Conference participants come from all over the world and include scholars, journalists, serving military personnel, and veterans. Given its unique membership, the conference not only affects the historical understanding of warfare but also the future of operations and the civil/military relationship. Hosting the SMH gave Southern Miss a larger presence than ever before in the fierce debates that rage both about the study of warfare and about the contentious future of global military activity.
