School of Construction NCCER Module Requirement
Catalog Year 2017-2018 or Later
Beginning in the fall 2017 semester, the School of Construction will implement a degree requirement related to hands-on verification of skills through a partnership with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). NCCER is an organization that creates and implements standardized workforce development training. For additional information about NCCER, please visit their website: nccer.org.
Each NCCER Module requires students to successfully demonstrate their ability to perform specific tasks, called Performance Profiles. Four courses within the School of Construction require an in-person demonstration of skills as part of the NCCER Performance Profile requirement. Students must successfully pass each NCCER Performance Profile for the following Modules as part of their degree requirements:
- AEC 204 - Materials and Methods of Construction
NCCER Module #23209 - Quality Control - BCT 205/305 - Surveying
NCCER Module #23212 - Properties of Concrete - AEC 315 - Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Systems
NCCER Module #03109-13 - Introduction to Air Distribution Systems - BCT 445 - Soils and Foundations
NCCER Module #22308-13 - Soils
Students may satisfy all NCCER Performance Profile requirements by choosing one day to attend the one-week summer session on the USM Hattiesburg campus. By completing the one day Performance Profile's you will have satisfied the NCCER Module degree requirement. Students must complete the following 3-hour lecture courses before attending one of the days of your choice during the one-week summer session: AEC 204 - Materials and Methods of Construction, BCT 205/305 - Surveying, AEC 315 - Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Systems, BCT 445 - Soils and Foundations.
An alternative option to the above requirement is to find an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor near you by following this link: https://www.nccer.org/get-involved/individuals-seeking-training/find-a-training-or-assessment-center. If this option is selected, the student is responsible for all associated fees and scheduling.
