Institute for Disabilty StudiesThe Institute for Disability Studies has been impacting Mississippians with disabilities and their families for over 40 years. IDS has worked to provide technical assistance, training, resources and supports for Mississippians with disabilities and their families. We like to think we are providing pathways to a better life for people of all ages—infants, toddlers, school-age children, youth, workers, parents, families and seniors.

Joseph King tells about Job Extravaganza WXXV reports on the November 2024 Job Extravaganza  in Long Beach, MS serving more than 150 high schoolers with disabilities.
Dr. Leslie LaVergne IDS received a $200,0000 grant to support and protect the rights and inclusion of Mississippi K-12 students and their families through the Special Education Family Advocacy Network.
WLOX Reports on Job Extravaganza WLOX reports on the Job Extravaganza on the coast where young adults with disabilities were given hands-on look into jobs in community.
WDAM interviews Taylor Carley in the RISE Program College is now an option for those who are intellectually disabled, and the University of Southern Mississippi’s Reaching, Including, Supporting and Educating (RISE) program is making sure they receive the normal college experience.
Special Olymics at Jackson State Congratulations to the Special Olympics (SO) College Southern Miss flag football team and cheerleaders for an amazing tournament on Saturday, October 28 at Jackson State University.  So College Southern Miss played in the championship game that went to overtime and finished 2nd overall.  Thanks to the athletes, parents, IDS staff, @Luckyday Scholars Program of Southern Miss, and UNV 110 students with @USM School of Interdisciplinary Studies & Professional Development for making this season so great!
